The New York Times has published its list of best-selling business books for October, 2023. For the first time in a very long time (literally, a few years now), Atomic Habits is no longer at the #1 spot.
The new book at the top spot is Walter Isaacson’s new biography of Elon Musk, titled…Elon Musk. At the First Friday Book Synopsis, I presented my synopsis of Isaacson’s book Steve Jobs, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But, though Steve Jobs had his flaws, I admired him much more than I do Mr. Musk. I do plan to read the new book, but…I’m working up to it.
Of the ten books on this month’s list, I have presented four at the First Friday Book Synopsis event: Atomic Habits, The Creative Act, The Coming Wave, and Dare to Lead. This is the first month I can remember when we have not presented at least five of the ten books from this monthly list.
I am high on all four that I presented, but in this era of promise and fear about Artificial Intelligence, I especially recommend The Coming Wave: Technology, Power, and the Twenty-first Century’s Greatest Dilemma. It is quite something!
(Here is a link to an interview with the book’s author from just this week, October 11, 2023, conducted by Steve Inskeep on NPR’s Morning Edition: Leading voice in AI, who worries about its consequences, favors regulating it).
